Development
Brentwood: reflective of its heritage, guided by its vision, and ready to provide opportunities for all.To coincide with the City’s Mission Statement: “Bringing Brentwood’s Vision to Reality”, there are several major projects underway that will have a significant and positive impact on our Community.
The Civic Center
The Civic Center Draws its inspiration from the old Brentwood Hotel that was located ant the corner of Oak and First Streets. The hotel was designed and built by Irving Gill in 1913.
Brentwood Library
This 5,000+ square foot Brentwood Library was moved from City Park to its new home on Oak Street as a first step in building the Civic Center. The fabrics, finishes and walls sport vibrant, warm colors, creating a welcoming space to spend time. The library is also equipped with state of the art technology, including Internet access and closed circuit televisions. Once City Hall is built and occupied, the library will expand into the remainder of 118-120 Oak Street and will occupy the full 17,000 square feet.
City Park
The new design of City Park provides a quality facility to the community in Downtown Brentwood. This includes: better lighting, landscape and hardscape improvements – planting of 102 new trees – new restrooms, a “gateway” at the corner of Oak and Second Streets, children’s play equipment and picnic areas with barbecues, new outdoor stage for performances and arcades around the park that will provide shade and be used for events in the park.
Community Center
The 32,000 square foot Community Center will be two stories, and will house a large banquet room for 350+ seating, opening directly on to the park, a full caterer’s kitchen, multi-purpose rooms and public meeting rooms.
City Hall, Civic Plaza, and Parking Structure
A large public plaza with shade trees and a fountain will anchor the new 60,000 square foot City Hall and Council Chamber. A 280-space Parking Structure will accommodate the Civic Center and Downtown Brentwood.
Downtown Brentwood Streetscape Improvements Project
The City is embarking on creating a new streetscape design as part of the downtown revitalization efforts. The City is committed to enhancing the heart of our community and encouraging the establishment of a dining and boutique district. The first phase is scheduled to start in the fall of 2010.
It includes:
- Wider sidewalks
- New street trees with tree lights
- New street furniture
- Lights and planters
- Entry Arch
- Touchable Table Fountain
