Discovery Bay
“Live Where You Play” is no empty motto. From watersports to partying, Discovery Bay’s residents are serious about recreation and celebration!
Once a quaint hamlet on the eastern border of Contra Costa County, the upscale community of Discovery Bay has grown from a weekend retreat into a year-round family-based town of nearly 15,000 residents. Today, Discovery Bay – whose motto is “Live Where You Play” – boasts shopping centers, schools and churches. This year the unincorporated community was assigned two full-time resident deputies and a crime-prevention specialist, and established a permanent sheriff’s annex as well.
Discovery Bay is governed by the Community Services District (CSD), which is comprised of a five-member elected board that takes care of the town’s water, sewer and landscaping needs. The board also provides recommendations to the county regarding local issues such as commercial ventures, housing and police services.
The Reclamation District 800 (Rec 800) is a special district governed by a five-member elected Board of Trustees charged with overseeing and maintaining the town’s levee system. Rec 800 also manages water drainage and circulation of Discovery Bay’s lakes and lagoons.
Discovery Bay’s boat docks and access to 1,200 miles of Delta waterways allow locals to enjoy an abundance of watersports including boating, windsurfing, paddle boarding, fishing and swimming. The town also boasts excellent tennis facilities and a championship golf course, the Discovery Bay Country Club.
